SkyView Download

SkyView Firmware Releases (Everyone)

This is the actual firmware update. Everyone should download this file. Click the link below to download it.

IMPORTANT Serial Port Wiring Change:In SkyView 2.6 software and newer, serial port outputs from multi-screen SkyView systems must be connected together. This wiring change must be made at the same time SkyView is upgraded to 2.6 or newer. See this page for a full description of systems this change applies to and wiring instructions.

Update SkyView's software BEFORE updating any other databases or files that are on this page.

Aviation and Obstacle Databases

Note: The MAP menu will not appear unless an aviation database is installed. The Dynon databases below must be updated when you upgrade to version 3.1, even if you have previously loaded the current cycle data.

SkyView Version 3.1 contains a 30 flight hour free trial of the SkyView Navigation Mapping Software. The Navigation Mapping Software must be purchased in order to continue to use it after the trial period ends. Only one Navigation Mapping Software license purchase is required per airplane ($500). Licenses can be purchased from Dynon Avionics or any authorized dealers.

Data for US customers is provided by Dynon Avionics for no fee. Worldwide customers can purchase data directly from Jeppesen.

The following databases add aviation and obstacle data to SkyView. To display this data, you must have an active GPS signal, a Navigation Mapping Software license (or unexpired 30 flight hour trial), and the below databases installed.

IMPORTANT Ethernet Port Wiring Change: SkyView 3.1 has the ability to automatically synchronize both Dynon and Jeppensen databases between screens if their Ethernet ports are connected (in addition to the required SkyView Network connection), eliminating the need to load the databases on each screen individually. See the updated SkyView Installation Guide for more information about connecting SkyView displays together via Ethernet.

EMS Sensor Definitions (CHANGED AT 3.0)

This file updates the sensor definitions and characterizations used by the EMS. There were a few improvements made to sensor characterizations at the version 3.0 update, so everyone should download this version if they have not already done so. Click the link below to download it.

If you are having issues downloading this file please Right Click and select Save As

EMS Engine Setups (Optional)

Dynon Avionics has created pin mappings and screen layouts for the most common engine types used by customers. If you haven’t already set up your engine page, these files will give you a great “head start”. If you have already set up your own EMS, you probably should skip this step, as it will overwrite the pin mappings and layouts you have already created. To download these files, click the link below. A page with the files will open in a new browser window or tab.

Terrain Databases

There are three resolutions of terrain that all need to be installed to show terrain properly at all map range levels. SkyView Systems come preloaded with worldwide Low-Res terrain, plus US only High-Res terrain. High-Res terrain for other regions can be selected and downloaded from this page.

High Resolution Terrain - Worldwide by Region:

Go to the page below to download high resolution terrain for your region if you are outside the US.

Low Resolution Terrain - Worldwide:

Low Resolution Terrain comes pre-loaded on all SkyView displays. If it is accidentally removed, it can be downloaded here.

Very Low Resolution Terrain - Worldwide (Added at 3.0):

Note: New for all customers upgrading to SkyView 3.0

Version 3.0 adds a new very low resolution terrain database to enable better terrain display at large zoom ranges. The below file is pre-installed on SkyView displays that have 3.0 or newer software shipped from Dynon. All other displays should have this file loaded to it:

Full Firmware Installation Instructions

A SkyView update may require one or more different files to be downloaded and installed:

  • ALWAYS load the latest version of Skyview Firmware Releases before you load any other software.
  • A Navigation Database, which is updated regularly as the data expires.
  • An Obstacles Database, which is updated regularly as the data expires.
  • Config Files, which alter the settings and configuration of your SkyView System to take advantage of new firmare features.
  • EMS Sensor Definitions, which are updated occasionally.
  • EMS Engine Setups, probably only needed once.
  • A High-Res Terrain Database for different regions of the world. (US Terrain is pre-loaded. Non-US must be uploaded, and is normally required only once.)

As a summary, you will need to:

  • Download new files to your PC.
  • Transfer the files to a USB stick.
  • Power up your SkyView.
  • Insert the USB stick into a SkyView USB port.
  • Use the SkyView Setup Menu to load the new files.
  • Reboot SkyView.

Before You Start: SkyView systems are kept up-to-date by updating a small set of firmware, configuration, and database files. This page describes these update procedures and has download links for these files. Please read this page in its entirety to ensure that you understand all of the instructions before updating your SkyView system.

All files are loaded to your SkyView system via a USB memory stick. A suitable USB memory stick comes with your SkyView system, but any commonly-available USB memory stick with enough free space will work.

File Update Instructions:

Updates should be performed with the system connected to an external (aircraft or bench) power source. They should not be done using the optional backup battery exclusively.

  1. ON YOUR PC: Using the links shown below, download each of the new files to your PC, and then to the USB memory stick.
  2. IN THE AIRPLANE: Move the memory stick to any of the 3 USB ports on one of your SkyView Displays.
  3. SETUP MENU: All update procedures are done in SkyView's Setup Menu. To enter the Setup Menu, hold down buttons 7 and 8 (the right two buttons) for a few seconds.
  4. FIRMWARE INSTALL: Navigate to SETUP > SYSTEM SOFTWARE >Upgrade System Software.
  5. Load the new SkyView Firmware Release from your USB stick. The SkyView Display will reboot when it has updated and will continue to update your other devices (ADAHRS and EMS Modules).
  6. CAUTION: If you backed up your system, there will be a backup file on your USB stick as well. Be careful NOT to upload that file accidentally.
  7. INSTALL OTHER FILES: Navigate to SETUP > SYSTEM SOFTWARE > LOAD FILES
  8. Load each of the other new files from your USB stick, one at a time. The order that you load the files to the screen does not matter.
  9. When finished loading all files, power reboot the system by powering down the Display and re-starting.
  10. Repeat 2-9 on all of the other Displays in your SkyView network.
  11. When finished, confirm the following: All devices and modules should be listed as "READY" under the SETUP>NETWORK SETUP> NETWORK STATUS menu. If all devices are not listed, go back to SETUP > NETWORK SETUP > CONFIGURE to reconfigure the SkyView Network. If you have two screens in your SkyView system, you will definitely need to configure the SkyView network again for all of the screens and modules to be seen. This can be done from either screen.
  12. US customers only: confirm that aviation data and obstacles appear on the MAP page.
